Elgiz Museum is founded by collectors Sevda and Can Elgiz as the first contemporary art museum in Turkey in 2001. As public contemporary art museums and/or foundations did not exist at the time, this privately-owned, non-profit institution took on the mission to support the development of contemporary art with an international identity in a 2000 m² space open to the public. Since its establishment, Elgiz Museum hosts exhibitions and Projects for curators, up-and-coming artists and institutions, showcasing Turkish art on a global scale on international platforms. The museum also permanently houses the family’s collection and continues to host dynamic and temporary exhibitions. In 2013, the Elgiz Collection was presented with the International Collecting Award by the IFEMA Amigos de ARCO Madrid and the museum is an active member of the Fundacion ARCO International Council. Elgiz Museum is the founding member of the Global Private Museum Network (GPMN) and member of International Council of Museums (ICOM).
